FAQ
1. Do I need to own my own home?
No- but you will have to have a spare room where the foster child/ren could stay.
2. Can I still work?
Yes- As long as the child is having his/her needs met you can take on another job. In fact all of our carers support themselves first and are not dependent on income received from being a foster parent. However,
in some cases it may be necessary for a carer to be home full time and you would also be responsible to attend meetings, appointments and to be at home during the school holidays.
3. Can I be a single foster parent?
Yes- If you qualify to become a carer you do not have to have a partner. However, you will need to have a strong network of family and friends to help.
4. Will I need to provide transportation for foster children?
Yes- You would be responsible for taking the child to school etc. Occasionally, if you had a particular problem, we would endeavour to make alternative arrangements.
5. Will I be able to adopt any foster child/ren that I look after?
No- But if you are approved for long term or permanent fostering it means you could look after a child indefinitely.
6. Are all foster care payments taxable?
No- Our carers all work on a "self employed" basis. Under a new tax relief introduced in 2003, foster carers who stay within an individual limit will not be taxed on any income generated by fostering children. For up to date information regarding this please visit www.inlandrevenue.co.uk
